Running to Support Education for Girls

On 3 June, Sucafina Specialty employees across the globe united to raise money for Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF) through a virtual 5k.

Girls Gotta Run Foundation (GGRF) provides athletic scholarships that are paired with a holistic program that focuses on supporting girls both physically and mentally.

Sucafina employees, like Green Coffee Merchant Bavo Vandenbrocke, saw the run as an opportunity to spread awareness of GGRF and the inequities it aims to address. “When I considered all the barriers to education young women in Ethiopia face, I was inspired to run to help magnify their voices and bring more attention to disparities in education for girls in Ethiopia,” Bavo said.

Danna Wasserman, Trader, was also inspired by GGRF’s work. “I love that GGRF targets girls and their mothers and uses running as a tool for self-improvement,” Danna said. “Running can be such a powerful platform to enhance positive self-image and also to empower women within their own communities.”

The fundraiser continues until the end of June. Together, Sucafina employees have already raised 80% of their goal of $2,000 USD. Sucafina has pledged to match employee donations, doubling the total amount donated.
