About This Coffee
Las Mercedes is a Colombian coffee company that has been passed down through generations, with a rich family history. Their coffee journey began in 1913 when their great-grandfather, Lisímaco Guerra, started his plantations in the Remolinos region of Ciudad Bolívar. Their grandfather, Eduardo Guerra Sánchez, continued the family legacy by acquiring land in the La Carmina region of Ciudad Bolívar, Antioquia, Colombia, where he also began his work as a coffee and cacao trader, opening a local buying and selling establishment. Additionally, their grandmother, Josefina Vélez de Guerra, also played an important role in shaping this legacy, as her parents were dedicated to the arriero tradition throughout their lives.
They are also known as Green Hills Coffee S.A.S., a Colombian coffee production, trading, and exporting chain that emerged from the desire to add value to this beautiful product from the farm to the coffee cup on the table. They are coffee producers first and foremost, with a lineage spanning five generations in this business. With Green Hills, they can now offer their customers a fully traceable product, controlling every step in the supply chain from seed to the final customer. This sets them apart as producers of high-quality coffees.

Coffee in Colombia
Colombia has been producing and exporting coffee renowned for their full body, bright acidity and rich aftertaste, since the early 19th century.
Colombia boasts a wide range of climates and geographic conditions that produce their own unique flavors in coffee. This also means that harvest times can vary quite a bit. In fact, between all its different regions, Colombia produces fresh crop nearly all year round.
The increasing focus on the specialty industry is changing the way traders and farmers do business. It is becoming more common for farmers to isolate the highest quality beans in their lots to market separately. These higher-quality lots are often sold under specific brands or stories.
Besides its wide variety of cup profiles, Colombia has quickly expanded its certification options over the past 10 years. The most common certifications available are Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and Organic.
