About This Coffee

Anei was founded in 1995 by Aurora Izquierdo, the first woman in her Arhuaco community to earn a degree in agricultural engineering. Since then, Anei became a collective of more than 800 indigenous producers, all descended from the Tayrona people. Guided by a deep respect for nature and tradition, Anei’s mission blends coffee cultivation with environmental preservation and social equity.

Aurora’s leadership has been a game-changer, and under her leadership, Anei invests in microloans, scholarships, road infrastructure and programs that empower women and youth, all while producing high-quality coffee. These initiatives support the next generation and honor ancestral knowledge, helping fulfil Anei’s Vision of being a sustainable alternative that generates development and well-being in communities and other involved stakeholders.

Cultivation

Despite unpredictable rain and ripening challenges which are characteristics of this growing region, producers in La Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Serranía del Perijá have adapted with strong agronomic practices to maintain high quality harvests. Their resilience helps secure sustainable incomes and reinforces the long-term health of their communities.

Harvest & Post-Harvest

Each cherry is handpicked and processed on individual farms using manual pulpers. Fermentation and washing are done in clean water before the parchment is dried under the sun. Anei operates three key collection hubs in Pueblo Bello, Valledupar and Codazzi with advanced milling and drying facilities to ensure consistency and traceability.

European Preparation (EP)

EP stands for European Preparation. EP beans are Screen 15+ with a low defect tolerance.

Coffee in Colombia

Colombia has been producing and exporting coffee renowned for their full body, bright acidity and rich aftertaste, since the early 19th century.

Colombia boasts a wide range of climates and geographic conditions that produce their own unique flavors in coffee. This also means that harvest times can vary quite a bit. In fact, between all its different regions, Colombia produces fresh crop nearly all year round.

The increasing focus on the specialty industry is changing the way traders and farmers do business. It is becoming more common for farmers to isolate the highest quality beans in their lots to market separately. These higher-quality lots are often sold under specific brands or stories.

Besides its wide variety of cup profiles, Colombia has quickly expanded its certification options over the past 10 years. The most common certifications available are Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and Organic.
