Maria Barquin

Maria Barquin began her journey into coffee while studying agricultural sciences with a focus on sustainability at Earth University in Costa Rica, where coffee played a key role in the curriculum. Her interest deepened during her Master's studies in South Korea, where rising coffee consumption inspired her thesis on coffee demand in Northeast Asia. After graduation, she joined MTC Group in Hong Kong, using her academic insights to explore the specialty coffee industry further. Following MTC's merger with Sucafina, Maria transitioned to the EMEA team, excited to engage with the Middle East’s coffee scene. Originally from Guatemala, she is now a senior trader in the MENA & South Africa region, bringing international experience, language skills and a passion for travel, food and coffee.
