What’s Happening this 2025 with CAM Logistics?
From port congestion in Puerto Cortés in Honduras to stronger ties with global carriers, logistics across the Central America (CAM) region have been anything but quiet this year. Still, with hands-on collaboration at origin, the team is pushing forward. To understand what’s happening behind the scenes as the shipments season progresses, we spoke with Tatiana Diaz Barragán, CAMP Origination Manager, and Diego Rivero, CAMP Execution Coordinator. From ground-level bottlenecks to the strategies keeping coffee on the move, here’s where things stand and what’s coming next.
This article at a glance
- Infrastructure challenges continue across Central America.
- Stronger partnerships with carriers are helping unlock solutions.
- Our logistics action plan is creating structure and resilience for 2025.
- Coffee is flowing and clients are getting their shipments on time.
Logistics across Central America is no walk in the park. Port capacity, equipment shortages and tough terrain keep everyone on their toes. But 2025 has helped our teams to build resilience, develop better systems and deliver under pressure.
Zooming Out: The Big Picture
In places like Honduras and Nicaragua, 20-foot containers are often hard to come by. Mexico still faces long bottlenecks in overland trucking. And the peak export season continues to stretch infrastructure in Guatemala, El Salvador and beyond. But there’s momentum too. Costa Rica’s Moín terminal is setting a new standard, and Nicaragua is investing in port upgrades that could shift future flows.
Shipping lines have been a huge variable over the last 5 months. “There were moments where we had to make calls without knowing how things would land,” says Diego Rivero, Logistics Lead for the region. “But the same carriers also started showing up with better digital tools and long-term contracts. That made a real difference.”
Getting Tactical: Inside the Action Plan
A turning point this year was the creation of a CAM Logistics Action Plan. It brought together the Logistics and Freight teams to strengthen communication and structure across all levels. “We knew we needed to be more present,” says Diego. “So we showed up in person, built connections and made sure carriers knew just how critical our volumes are.”
The plan also led to origin-by-origin strategies. For each country, direct channels were mapped to speed up communication. This meant faster decisions, fewer delays and stronger trust across the board.
What helped most, though, was internal collaboration. “There were moments when we had done everything we could on the logistics side,” Diego adds. “That’s when Risk stepped in with action plans for port incidents and Trading backed us with their direct ties to shippers. It wasn’t just support, it was decisive.”
At the same time, the entire Logistics Team stepped up by strengthening communication with shippers, becoming more agile and proactive while also constantly following up to ensure alignment and quick responses throughout the processes.
Thanks to that three-way teamwork, contracts were honored, major risks were contained and operations kept moving. “Not once did we stop,” says Diego. “There was continuity even when things were complicated.”
What Roasters Should Know
If you’re planning to source from CAM this year, timing is key. Things are progressing steadily across the region, but some slowdowns are still possible depending on the country and port. Communication is faster than ever, but forecasting and flexibility are still your best friends.
“On the commercial side, it’s all about service,” says Tatiana Diaz Barragán, CAMP Origination Manager. “Our goal is always to deliver the best possible experience. That’s why we don’t just accept the reality of logistics. We actively work to change it.”
That mindset is what sets this team apart. CAM logistics isn’t just about moving containers. It’s about relationships, planning, adaptation and making sure coffee arrives on time no matter what. And if 2025 has shown us anything, it’s that this region is not only handling challenges. It’s finding its footing and pushing forward.
