RWACOF (Sucafina in Rwanda)

Sucafina operates 22 of Rwanda’s 300 coffee washing stations. In concert with our sustainability partner, the Kahawatu Foundation, we invest heavily in farmer training, Good Agricultural Practices and increasing farmer livelihoods. Furthermore, we are focused on improving income and profitability for our partner farmers through annual bonuses and the facilitation of zero-fee bank accounts, giving famers more secure storage for their money and the opportunity to build a financial credit history.

In-Country Operations

  • Purchase cherry directly from farmers
  • Operate at 30 washing stations
  • Offices & QC lab in Kigali
  • Dry mill in Kigali
  • Ship from Dar es Salaam or Mombasa

RWACOF operates 30 of Rwanda’s 300 coffee washing stations. At the station, an exceptional attention to detail during post-harvest activities ensures the best quality coffee possible. From the moment cherry enters the washing station until it is milled and bagged for export, Sucafina Rwanda keeps stringent quality controls in place, knowing that high quality coffee is crucial for delivering benefits and adding value across the supply chain

Sustainability

  • Farmer bankability project
  • Projects including: solar panels, carbon emissions assessment, water purification & more
  • Organic fertilizer production
  • CropIn projects
  • Second payments
  • Agricultural training
  • Marketing assistance

RWACOF’s investment in the Rwandan coffee sector extends beyond mere bricks and mortar. In concert with our sustainability partner, the Kahawatu Foundation, RWACOF invests heavily in farmer training and good agricultural practices. RWACOF’s Farmer Field School shares information with all their producer partners about best agricultural practices, conservation tactics, the importance of picking only ripe cherry and more.

Furthermore, RWACOF is focused on improving the financial situation of the farmers with whom they work. Annual bonuses are always distributed once the coffee is sold. While second payments are typically given as cash, Sucafina’s initiative helps farmers open zero-fee bank accounts and receive second payments directly into their account. These bank accounts offer far-reaching benefits, including more secure storage for their money and the opportunity to build a financial credit history that will enable them to access to credit lines with better interest rates.
