Colombia Women in Coffee 2025 Update
In 2025, purchases of El Bombo Mujeres microlots directly funded skills building and gender equity initiatives for 85 women coffee growers across Huila and Cauca. As part of our Beyond Flagship program, this initiative supports advancement toward our IMPACT Goals of Regenerative Agriculture, Human Rights & Living Income.
Gender equity in coffee starts at the farm level. A joint assessment by Sucafina and El Bombo Cooperative found that gender equity is a key factor in achieving more sustainable and higher quality coffee production (along with long-term higher returns). The work of mothers, sisters and daughters is not only crucial to securing the coffee harvest but also contributes to well-being throughout the household and community.
Despite these contributions, the assessment revealed real gaps: many women within the El Bombo network expressed a reduced sense of independence and autonomy within their coffee organization, and many lacked access to training and knowledge that would help them contribute more visibly to the economic well-being of their households. But thanks to our IMPACT Beyond Flagship Program: Women in Coffee, plus great collaboration between Sucafina and El Bombo Cooperative, that's changing.
Thanks to roasters who purchased El Bombo Mujeres microlots, Sucafina and El Bombo executed $19,513 USD in direct investment in 2025, delivering 85 soil analyses, 54 post-harvest kits and 7,000 coffee seedlings to 16 participants across four communities in Huila and Cauca.
Project Impact:
- 85 women directly participating across 4 communities in Huila and Cauca
- 300+ people positively impacted, including family members and community members
- Soil analyses completed on all participating farms to guide better agricultural decisions
- 54 post-harvest kits distributed to improve processing quality at the farm level
- 7,000 seedlings delivered to support farm rejuvenation and long-term productivity
Next Steps:
The 'Women in Coffee: Equity & Quality' program is ongoing. Activities will continue into the next project cycle, with Sucafina and El Bombo Cooperative renewing their commitment to gender equity and skills building across Huila and Cauca.Sucafina’s on-the-ground partner in Colombia, Local Partners, is a Colombia-based non-profit organization that develops and implements sustainable initiatives for the coffee sector.

About Beyond Flagship projects
Beyond Flagship Projects are initiatives linked to IMPACT-verified farmer groups within Sucafina’s direct supply chains. These projects are designed to offer partners a flexible way to support IMPACT goals, create measurable impact and drive meaningful change at contribution levels below the typical minimum threshold for full project sponsorship.
Investments are made through a premium and do not need to be tied directly to coffee produced by the project’s participating farmers. Instead, support is Origin-specific – for example, purchasing Beyond Flagship contributing coffees from Colombia enables investment in Colombia-based IMPACT Beyond projects. This approach increases flexibility, expands the potential for impact at scale and supports more consistent data collection and reporting across supply chains.
