Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC)

With Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) certification, roasters can now buy coffees that directly contribute to better soil health and improved conditions for workers all while upholding coffee quality.

Sucafina is proud to be among the first green coffee importers in the United States to offer ROC coffees. These coffees are produced in a way that helps sequester carbon and build healthier communities. By sequestering carbon, ROC coffee production can help mitigate climate change. Currently, we offer ROC coffees sourced from Nicaragua, Honduras, Peru and Colombia.

Founded in 2017, ROC builds upon existing Organic and social fairness certifications while adding three core pillars focused on improving the social and environmental conditions of coffee production. The pillars for coffee production are soil health and social fairness.

Soil health means cultivating a healthy topsoil that grows stronger and deeper each year. ROC farmers focus on promoting biodiversity, eliminating pesticides and protecting natural ecosystems.

Social fairness focuses on the people living and working on farms. ROC farmers commit to paying living wages and guaranteeing safe working conditions for their laborers.

ROC suppliers begin with an Organic certification and a social fairness certification like Fairtrade International or Fair Trade USA. From there, they can apply for ROC and continue investing in ROC’s three core pillars while producing excellent coffees.

While anyone can buy ROC-certified coffees, in order to label products with the ROC logo and name, roasters need to be licensed and agree to ROC’s labeling guidelines. Roasters can submit an online application with the Regenerative Organic Alliance (ROA). Once roasters achieve their license, they will also need to complete an annual desk audit. The first audit will occur within 3 to 6 months of receiving a license and then on an annual basis after that.
